Making a Kiddush in shul upon having a daughter:[1]

It is customary for the husband to sponsor and arrange for a Kiddush to take place in his Shul on Shabbos in celebration of the birth of a daughter in order to give thanks to G-d for the birth. The blessings that the participants of the Kiddush wish upon the father on behalf of his daughter, for her physical and spiritual health and success, are able affect the future of that child.[2]
