Daily Tanach Sunday 6th Tishreiy Sefer Yirmiyah Chapter 5 Part 1: A Nation’s Rebellion and Its Consequences

🔍 Search for Righteousness in Jerusalem

  • Hashem commands to stroll through Jerusalem’s streets and squares to seek a man who performs justice and seeks faith—then He will forgive her.
  • Even when they swear “As Hashem lives,” they swear falsely.

💔 Rebellion and Hardness of Heart

  • Hashem’s eyes are upon faith, yet the people feel no pain when smitten, refuse correction, and make their faces harder than rock.
  • The poor are foolish, not knowing Hashem’s way or judgment.
  • Even the great ones, who should know Hashem’s way, have broken the yoke and burst the bands.

🦁 Consequences of Transgression

  • Wild beasts—lion, wolf, leopard—will ravage cities due to many transgressions and increased backslidings.
  • Hashem asks, “Shall I forgive you for this?” as the children forsake Him, swear by no-Hashems, commit adultery, and gather in the house of a harlot.
  • Like armed stallions, they neigh over their friend’s wife.

⚖️ Divine Justice and Vengeance

  • Hashem declares: “Shall I not punish for these things?” and “Shall My soul not wreak vengeance for such a nation?”
  • Destruction is commanded, but not a complete end—roots are to be removed, for they are not Hashem’s.
