Importance of a proper Kerias Shema Sheal Hamita

Importance of a proper Kerias Shema Sheal Hamita:[1]

The custom today is to no longer perform Tikkun Chatzos.[2] Nevertheless, one is to perform the service of Tikkun Chatzos during his recital of Kerias Shema Sheal Hamita.[3] This means that one is to perform a Cheshbon Nefesh of his day during his recital of Kerias Shema, and contemplate on everything he thought of that day, and everything that he used his time for, and whether this should continue for the future. When one does so, he will go to sleep like a Chassid and then wake up like a Chassid.
