How to make correct decisions:[1]
The Baal Shem Tov stated in the name of the Ramban that whenever one is in question over what to do, whether a certain action is an act of holiness of Kelipa, one should try to imagine himself removed from the situation. He is to imagine the act taking place not with himself, and thus the benefit and honor is not received by him. Only after one removes his personal gains from the act can he make a true decision as to its merits and deficiencies. On this the verse[2] states “The matter that is difficult for you, you should bring to me” This means that matters which are difficult to decide, is due to your benefits involved, and thus you should remove your benefits and then bring it to the inner recesses of your soul to decide.
