  1. Who is Noach?
  • Noach was a Tzadik, a pure man in his generation.
  • Noach had three children, Shem, Cham and Yafes.

 

  1. The depravity of the world:
  • The world became depraved before G-d, and was filled with corruption. Hashem took notice of this, as all the creations perverted their nature on the earth.
  • Hashem told Noach that He has become fed up with the corruption of the world and that it will have to be destroyed.

 

  1. Hashem instructs Noach to build a Teiva/Ark:
  • Hashem instructs Noach to build a wooden ark that is covered in tar. These instructions include the following:
    • The Teiva is to be 300 cubits [144 meters] long, 50 cubits wide [24 meters] and 30 cubits tall [14 meters].
    • The Teiva is to have a Tzohar [window] and is to be constructed with a pitched roof.
    • It is to have three stories.
  • Hashem said to Noach: The world will be flooded and all its creatures destroyed. I will make my covenant with you, and you and your wife and children and their families will survive on the Teiva. You are to enter into the Teiva a male and female creature of every species, animals, birds and insects. Gather food and store it in the Teiva.
  • Noach followed the instructions of G-d in detail.

Rabbi Yaakov Goldstein is a 6th generation descendent of the famous Chief Rabbi of Izhmir, Rav Yehoshua Avraham Krispin, who authored a number of Sefarim, and was a colleague of Rav Chaim Falagi, and father in-law of the Pesach Hadvir. He currently lives with his wife Shayna, and twelve children K”H, in Tzfas, Israel. Rabbi Goldstein received Semicha from Rabbi Schneur Zalman Labkowski of the Tomchei Temimim headquarters in 2005 and served as a chaplain in the Lotar/Kalatz and K9 unit of the IDF from years 2005-2008. He is also a certified Shochet, and has performed Hashgacha work in slaughterhouses. Rabbi Goldstein is the director of Shulchanaruchharav.com, the world’s leading web-based Halacha database, and is the director of the Home Study Semicha Program, a self-study web-based Semicha program. He is a prolific author of over 50 Sefarim studied by a wide range of readers throughout the world, which is used regularly in Semicha programs around the globe. He is a world renowned Posek, answering questions to a web-based market, and serves as a local Posek, Rav, and Lecturer, in the Tzemach Tzedek community Shul in Tzefas, Israel.
