Chapter 6: Judgment on Idolatry

1. G‑d Commands Yechezkel to Prophesy (Verses 1–3)

G‑d speaks to Yechezkel and instructs him to turn his face toward the mountains of Israel and prophesy against them. These mountains represent the places where the people of Israel practiced idolatry.

  1. Destruction of Idolatrous Sites (Verses 4–6)

G‑d declares that the altars will become desolate, the idols and sun images will be broken, and the cities and high places will be laid waste. All the works of idolatry will be completely obliterated so that their guilt will be exposed.

  1. Slaughter Among the People (Verse 7)

The slain will fall among their idols, and through this devastation, the people will know that G‑d is the true Master of the world.

  1. A Remnant Will Survive (Verses 8–10)

G‑d promises that He will leave a remnant. These survivors will be scattered among the nations, and in their exile, they will remember G‑d. They will feel remorse for their sins and recognize that G‑d’s judgment was not without reason.

  1. Complete Judgment and Lamentation (Verses 11–14)

G‑d commands Yechezkel to strike his hands and stamp his feet as a sign of grief over the abominations of Israel. Punishment will come in three forms:

  • Those far away will die by pestilence.
  • Those nearby will fall by the sword.
  • Those under siege will perish from hunger.
The land will become utterly desolate, from the wilderness of Diblah throughout all their dwelling places, so that everyone will know that G‑d is the One who brought this judgment.
