Chapter 2: – The Prophet’s Commission; A Prophet Sent to a Rebellious People
1. The Call to Stand and Receive the Spirit (2:1–2)
G‑d speaks to Yechezkel, commanding him to stand on his feet so He can speak with him. As G‑d speaks, the spirit enters Yechezkel, setting him upright and enabling him to hear the divine message.
2. Mission to a Rebellious Nation (2:3–5)
G‑d declares that He is sending Yechezkel to the children of Israel—a rebellious people who have defied Him from their ancestors until now. They are described as brazen-faced and hard-hearted. Yechezkel must proclaim: “So says the Lord G‑d.” Whether they listen or refuse, they will know that a prophet has been among them.
3. Courage Amid Hostility (2:6–7)
Yechezkel is warned not to fear the people or their words, even though they are obstinate and hostile, like thorns and briars. He must not be dismayed by their rebellion but speak G‑d’s words faithfully, regardless of their response.
4. Obedience and the Scroll of Lamentation (2:8–10)
G‑d commands Yechezkel not to be rebellious like the people but to open his mouth and eat what He gives. Yechezkel sees a hand stretched out holding a scroll, written on both sides with words of lamentation, mourning, and woe—symbolizing the heavy message he must deliver.
