Chapter 57: The righteous versus the wicked 

  • Why the righteous pass away early: People are not paying attention and asking as to why the righteous and kind are passing away. This is because of the great punishments that are befitting to befall the generation of which the righteous are exempt from seeing and witnessing and therefore they pass away before its arrival.
  • Admonishing the wicked: You the wicked have no right to open your mouth against the prophet and G-d and still be deserving of the world’s pleasures. You serve idolatry under the tree and slaughter young children for idols. You place your trust in the kings of the Gentile nations assuming that they will send you help, and all you have accomplished is to degrade yourselves before them. You thought that there was no one to fear and therefore continued in your evil ways. Did you not know that I was simply being patient with My wrath and nonetheless you do not fear Me. Do you really believe that your deities will come to help you when you are stricken? You will see that they are nothing and that only those who trusted Me will be saved.
  • Those of humble spirit: G-d helps and assists specifically those who are of humble spirit to Him and are broken hearted.
  • An end to the punishment: G-d will not forever be angry and give punishment to the Jewish people, as it is G-d who created the souls for their benefit.
  • Sin of stealing: It is for the sin of stealing and injustice that I have gotten angry and punished you.
  • I’ve seen the way to the Jewish people and will heal them as soon as they repent. I will create for them a new lip and they will have peace and tranquility both for those distanced from Me and those close to Me. However those who are wicked and do not repent will be banished like to sea, as there is no peace for the wicked.
