Fruits which are available year round, with same price and freshness, do not recieve Shehchiyanu. Fruits however which are seasonal, and when not in season are imported, and more expensive, or not as tasty, then Shehechiyanu is said.
If fruits from the previous season are still available when the new season arrives is Shehechiyanu still said?[1] If there is only a small number of fruits available from the previous season, then Shehechiyanu is recited on the fruits of the new season. Thus those fruits which cannot last a full year, are to have Shehechiyanu said over their new season fruit, despite the fact that some people have schemed ways of how to preserve the fruit, as this amount of fruit is minute. If however the fruit is able to last for a full year [or until its next season] as is common with vegetables, then since there are many fruits still available from the previous season Shehechiyanu is not recited, even if one had not eaten from the fruits of the previous season. However even in such a case, if the new season fruit is recognizable due to its good taste and fresh appearance, then Shehechiyanu is said.
