Daily Tanya Thursday 4th Elul Igeres Hakodesh 10: Giving Tzedaka Without Limits

4th Elul

❤️ 1. Essence of Teshuvah

🫀 The core of repentance is in the heart — deep regret from one’s innermost feelings awakens a hidden, transcendent Divine light.

🌟 2. Drawing the Light into the Worlds

⬇️ To channel that light into higher and lower worlds, there must be practical action (it’aruta d’letata).
🤝 This action takes the form of unlimited tzedakah and chesed.

🤲 3. Giving Without Limits

💧 Just as one gives abundant kindness to someone with nothing of their own (dal v’evyon), without measure or boundary…

✨ Hashem bestows Infinite Kindness (Rav Chesed) without limit, upon all realms.

🕊️ 4. Repairing Spiritual Damage

🔄 Unlimited tzedakah repairs all blemishes caused by sin, in both upper and lower worlds.
🏆 This surpasses the effect of sacrifices, which are inherently measured.

⚖️ 5. Tzedakah vs. Sacrifices

📖 Verse: “Doing tzedakah and justice is chosen by Hashem over a sacrifice.”
📏 Sacrifices have fixed limits; tzedakah can be infinite — making it more effective for full spiritual repair.

🚫 6. The One‑Fifth Limitation

💰 “One who spends (on tzedakah) should not exceed one-fifth” — applies only to:

  • Those without sins to repair
  • Or those who have already completed full atonement.

🩺 7. Boundless Giving for Healing the Soul

🧠 For someone still in need of repairing their soul, there is no upper limit to tzedakah — just as one would spend anything to heal their body.

📜 As the verse says: “All that a man has, he will give for his soul.”
