Daily Tanya Thursday 30th Sivan Shaar Hayichud Viemuna Chapter 9 Part 3: Unity of G-d and the Divine Attributes

30th Sivan

1.      Gloss: The Principle of Tzimtzum (Contraction)

The mystical concept of tzimtzum explains how the infinite Divine light (Ein Sof) is condensed to allow for creation and emanation of worlds.

Adam Kadmon represents the highest post-tzimtzum existence, while Dikna refers to an esoteric aspect of these contractions.

2.      The Role of the Sefirot and Divine Attributes

The contraction of light enables it to be enclothed within the vessels of the ten sefirot, becoming the soul and life-force of lower worlds (Beriah, Yetzirah, Asiyah).

Only after such investiture is it appropriate to apply terms like “Knower, Knowledge, Known” to G-d, as articulated by Maimonides.

Without tzimtzum and investiture, knowledge cannot be ascribed to G-d; the Divine is infinitely elevated beyond wisdom.

3.      Unity of G-d and Divine Attributes

It is an article of faith that G-d and His attributes (the vessels and sefirot) are truly One, even though G-d transcends all intellect and comprehension.

This unity is impossible to comprehend rationally and can only be accepted through faith.

4.      The Secret of Faith

The Zohar teaches that the attributes (sefirot) of the Divine are “the secret of faith,” a concept that transcends human understanding and can only be accessed through emunah (faith).
