Daily Tanya Sunday 7th Elul Igeres Hakodesh 11: The Danger of Sadness

Epistle 11

7th Elul

🌟 The Foundation: Joy and Faith

  • A person should rejoice and be glad at all times.
  • True life stems from unwavering faith in God, who sustains and benefits us constantly.

🚫 The Danger of Sadness

  • Sadness and complaint suggest a lack of good and presence of suffering.
  • This attitude implies denial of divine goodness—considered spiritually harmful.
  • Therefore, the sages strongly warned against falling into sadness.

💪 The Strength of the Believer

  • A true believer remains unaffected by worldly suffering.
  • He sees both success and failure as equal, recognizing divine purpose in all.

🧍 Self-Centeredness vs. Divine Connection

  • One who feels unequal outcomes shows attachment to ego and worldly desires.
  • Such a person seeks to escape divine guidance and live like the nations, driven by self-love.
  • He desires material pleasures—status, children, wealth—because they serve his ego.

🧪 Life as a Test

  • Man’s creation is meant to test his heart and choices.
  • Will he follow false gods—bodily desires from the “Other Side”?
  • Or will he choose true life, rooted in the living God?

🔄 Everything Is from God

  • All needs and events unfold precisely from divine will.
  • “From the Lord are a man’s steps established.”
  • Even what seems bad is ultimately good, though not always understood.

✨ Transforming Perceived Evil

  • Through deep faith, even apparent evil is elevated and revealed as divine good.
  • This hidden good stems from God’s incomprehensible wisdom—called “Eden,” beyond even the World to Come.
  • Faith transforms illusionary evil into sublime, concealed goodness.
