Daily Tanya Monday 20th Sivan Shaar Hayichud Viemuna Chapter 7 Part 2: The Concept of Space and Time in Creation

20th Sivan

1.      Definition of “World”

  • The term “world” specifically applies to entities defined by the dimensions of space and time.
  • Space encompasses directions such as east, west, north, south, upward, and downward, while time includes past, present, and future.

2.      Relation to the World of Atzilut

  • The supernal attributes of the World of Atzilut transcend these dimensions of space and time because they are infinite.
  • Only through the attribute of G-d’s malchut can one describe the concept of spatial and temporal dimensions, as it is said, He is King “Above without end and below without limit” and in all directions.

3.      Malchut’s Creation of Space and Time

  • The very existence of space and time is derived from G-d’s attribute of malchut and the Name of Adnut.
  • This divine attribute brings space and time into being from nothingness and sustains their existence as long as they endure.

4.      Unity of Malchut with G-d’s Essence

  • Malchut is united with G-d’s Essence and Being in an absolute union.
  • Consequently, space and time, which are created by malchut, are completely nullified in relation to G-d’s Essence.
  • This nullification is akin to the way sunlight is nullified within the orb of the sun.

5.      Name of Adnut and Havayah

  • The Name of Adnut alternates with the Name of Havayah. The Name Havayah signifies G-d’s transcendence over time—“He was, is, and will be—all at the same instant.” Similarly, it reflects G-d’s transcendence over space, as Havayah continuously brings all dimensions of space into existence, from the uppermost to the lowermost levels and in all directions.
