Yechezkel Chapter 25: Prophecies Against Ammon, Moab, Edom, and Philistia
G‑d commands Yechezkel to prophesy against the children of Ammon. Ammon rejoiced maliciously when G‑d’s sanctuary was profaned, Israel’s land was desolated, and Judah went into exile. Therefore, G‑d will hand Ammon over to the people of the East, who will seize their land, dwell in their palaces, and consume their produce. Rabbah will become a place for camels, and Ammon a resting site for flocks. Because Ammon clapped its hands and stamped its feet in scorn over Israel, G‑d will cut them off from among the nations and make them perish, so that they will know that He is the Lord.
Moab and Seir mocked Judah, declaring it no different from any other nation. Because of this, G‑d will open up Moab’s flank—its key frontier cities such as Beth‑jeshimoth, Baal‑meon, and Kiryathaim—and hand them over to the people of the East together with Ammon. Moab will lose its independence and no longer be remembered among the nations. Through these judgments, Moab will know that G‑d is the Lord.
Edom acted vengefully against Judah during its time of distress. Therefore, G‑d will stretch out His hand against Edom, cutting off both man and animal and laying the land waste from Teman to Dedan. G‑d declares that Israel itself will carry out His vengeance upon Edom, acting according to His wrath, so Edom will recognize G‑d’s power.
The Philistines acted with unrelenting hatred, exacting revenge with deep contempt. For this, G‑d will strike them, destroy the Cherethites, and eliminate the survivors along the seacoast. G‑d will execute fierce acts of vengeance so that the Philistines will know that He is the Lord.
