Negative Commandments — Part 2

 

I. Korban Pesach & Kodashim (Mitzvot 123–147)

123. Do not remove the meat of the Korban Pesach from its designated group.
124. Do not bake leftover Minchah portions as chametz.
125. Do not eat the Korban Pesach raw or boiled.
126. Do not feed the Korban Pesach to a resident alien (ger toshav).
127. Do not allow an uncircumcised person to eat the Korban Pesach.
128. Do not feed the Korban Pesach to an apostate Israelite.
129. Do not allow an impure person to eat sacrificial meat.
130. Do not eat sacrificial meat that became impure.
131. Do not eat leftover sacrificial meat (notar).
132. Do not eat piggul.
133. Do not allow a non‑kohen to eat Terumah.
134. Do not allow a kohen’s resident or hired worker to eat Terumah.
135. Do not allow an uncircumcised person to eat Terumah or any holy foods.
136. Do not allow a kohen who is impure to eat Terumah.
137. Do not allow a Challalah to eat Terumah.
138. Do not eat a kohen’s Minchah offering.
139. Do not eat sin‑offerings whose blood is brought inside the Sanctuary.
140. Do not eat intentionally blemished consecrated animals.
141. Do not eat second‑tithe grain outside Jerusalem.
142. Do not eat second‑tithe wine outside Jerusalem.
143. Do not eat second‑tithe oil outside Jerusalem.
144. Do not eat an unblemished firstborn animal outside Jerusalem.
145. Do not allow kohanim to eat a Chatat or Asham outside the Temple courtyard.
146. Do not eat the flesh of an Olah offering.
147. Do not eat Kodshim Kalim before their blood is sprinkled.

II. Conditions for Valid Consumption of Offerings (148–152)

148. Do not allow a non‑kohen to eat Kodshei Kodashim.

  1. Do not allow a kohen to eat Bikkurim before they are placed in the Temple courtyard.
    150. Do not eat second‑tithe while impure.
    151. Do not eat second‑tithe while in mourning.

III. Restrictions on Maaser Sheni & Tevel (152–155)

152. Do not use Maaser Sheni money for non‑food or non‑drink purposes.
153. Do not eat Tevel (untithed produce).
154. Do not change the order of separating Bikkurim, Terumah, Maaser Rishon, and Maaser Sheni.
155. Do not delay fulfilling voluntary offerings and vows.

 

IV. Festival and Vow‑Related Prohibitions (156–157)

156. Do not appear at the Temple empty‑handed on the festivals.
157 Do not violate your own vows.

 

V. Forbidden Marriages for Kohanim (158–162)

158. Do not allow a kohen to marry a zonah.
159 Do not allow a kohen to marry a chalalah.
160. Do not allow a kohen to marry a divorced woman.
161. Do not allow the Kohen Gadol to marry a widow.
162. Do not allow the Kohen Gadol to have relations with a widow.

 

VI. Conduct of Kohanim in the Temple (163–168)

163. Do not allow a kohen to enter the Temple with unkempt hair.
164. Do not allow a kohen to enter the Temple with torn garments.
165. Do not allow a kohen to leave the Temple during service.
166. Do not allow a regular kohen to become impure except for close relatives.
167. Do not allow the Kohen Gadol to become impure even for relatives.
168. Do not allow the Kohen Gadol to enter a place of corpse‑impurity.

 

Levites (169–170)

  1. To not distribute to the Levite tribe an inheritance in Israel.
  2. To not distribute spoils of war to the Levite tribe.

 

Mourning

  1. 171. To not shave ones head out of mourning of a loved one.

 

VII. Forbidden Foods (Animals, Fish, Birds, Creeping Creatures) (172–189)

172. Do not eat non‑kosher land animals.
173. Do not eat non‑kosher fish.
174. Do not eat non‑kosher birds.
175. Do not eat flying insects.
176. Do not eat creeping land creatures.
177. Do not eat any swarming creature of the earth.
178. Do not eat worms after they exit fruit.
179. Do not eat swarming water creatures.
180. Do not eat animals that died without shechitah (nevelah).
181. Do not eat mortally wounded animals (trefah).
182. Do not eat a limb from a living animal.
183. Do not eat the sciatic nerve.
184. Do not eat blood.
185. Do not eat forbidden fats (chelev).
186. Do not cook meat and milk together.
187. Do not eat meat and milk cooked together.
188. Do not eat the meat of a stoned ox.
189. Do not eat new grain before the Omer offering.

 

VIII. New Grain, Orlah & Kil’ayim Produce (190–196)

190. Do not eat roasted new grain before the Omer.
191. Do not eat fresh kernels before the Omer.
192. Do not eat orlah fruit during the first three years.
193. Do not eat produce grown in forbidden mixtures in a vineyard (kil’ei ha‑kerem).
194. Do not drink wine used for idol worship.
195. Do not eat or drink in the manner of a glutton (ben sorer umoreh).
196. Do not eat on Yom Kippur.

IX. Chametz on Pesach (197–201)

197. Do not eat chametz on Pesach.
198. Do not eat mixtures containing chametz.
199. Do not eat chametz after midday on the 14th of Nissan.
200. Do not see chametz in your possession.
201. Do not allow chametz to remain on your property.

 

X. Nazir Prohibitions (202–209)

202. Do not let a nazir drink wine or anything made from grapes.
203. Do not let a nazir eat fresh grapes.
204. Do not let a nazir eat raisins.
205. Do not let a nazir eat grape seeds.
206. Do not let a nazir eat grape skins.
207. Do not let a nazir become impure to the dead.
208. Do not let a nazir enter a place containing a corpse.
209. Do not let a nazir shave his hair.

 

XI. Gifts to the Poor (Pe’ah, Leket, Shikhechah, etc.) (210–214)

210. Do not reap the entire field (leave Pe’ah).
211. Do not gather fallen stalks (Leket).
212. Do not harvest the vineyard’s small clusters (Olelot).
213. Do not gather fallen grapes (Peret).
214. Do not return to take a forgotten sheaf (Shikhechah).

 

XII. Agricultural Kil’ayim (215–219)

215. Do not plant forbidden seed mixtures.
216. Do not plant grain/vegetables in a vineyard.
217. Do not mate different species of animals.
218. Do not plow with two species together.
219. Do not muzzle an animal while it works.

XIII. Shemittah & Yovel Work Restrictions (220–226)

220. Do not work the land in Shemittah.
221. Do not prune trees during Shemittah.
222. Do not harvest Shemittah produce in the normal manner.
223. Do not gather Shemittah fruit in the normal manner.
224. Do not plant the land in Yovel.
225. Do not harvest Yovel produce in the normal manner.
226. Do not gather Yovel fruit in the normal manner.

 

XIV. Land Ownership in Eretz Yisrael (227–229)

227. Do not sell land in Israel permanently.
228. Do not change the fields or towns of the Levites.
229. Do not neglect the Levites — do not withhold their gifts.

 

XV. Loans, Shemittah, and Social Justice (230–240)

230. Do not demand repayment of loans after Shemittah.
231. Do not refuse to lend because Shemittah is approaching.
232. Do not harden your heart against the poor.
233. Do not send a Hebrew servant away empty-handed.
234. Do not pressure a poor borrower.
235. Do not lend with interest to a Jew.
236. Do not borrow with interest from a Jew.
237. Do not act as guarantor, witness, or scribe for an interest‑bearing loan.
238. Do not delay paying a hired worker.
239. Do not seize collateral by force.
240. Do not keep a poor man’s collateral overnight.
241. Do not take a widow’s garment as collateral.
242. Do not take food‑producing tools as collateral.

 

XVI. Theft & Kidnapping (241–242)

241. Do not kidnap a Jew.
242. Do not steal money or property.
