DonateThe after blessing of Meiyn Shalosh is of greater status than the after blessing of Borei Nefashos. Accordingly, the Poskim[1] rule that one is to be precede the blessing of Meiyn Shalosh to the blessing of Borei Nefashos. Thus, if one ate a food of the seven Minim and a food that requires Borei Nefashos, he is to first recite Meiyn Shalosh and only afterwards recite Borei Nefashos [unless the Borei Nefashos food was more Chaviv, or has a Safek if its before blessing is Haietz or Ha’adama, as will be explained next].
The law if the first blessing over the Borei Nefashos food was preceded due to being more Chaviv: Some Poskim[2] rule that in the event that the Borei Nefashos food was more Chaviv/beloved, and according to Halacha had its first blessing precede the first blessing of the Meiyn Shalosh food [such as by a Haeitz/Ha’adama mixture], then so too, its after blessing of Borei Nefashos is to be preceded to Meiyn Shalosh. Thus, if one had raisins and strawberries in front of him, and he preceded the strawberries in the blessing of Ha’adama, due to it being more beloved, then so too he is to precede its blessing of Borei Nefashos.
The law if the Borei Nefashos food has a Safek if its after blessing is Haietz or Ha’adama: See Chapter 21 Halacha 13E! If the Borei Nefashos product has a Safek if its before blessing is Haietz or Ha’adama, then since due to Safek he is Yotzei Bedieved with the after blessing of Al Hapeiros, therefore if one needs to also say an Al Hapeiros then he is to first recite the after blessing of Borei Nefashos and only then recite the after blessing of Al Hapeiros in order to avoid the doubt.
The order of after blessings:
- Birchas Hamazon
- Meiyn Shalosh
- Borei Nefashos
The Bracha Achrona of Meiyn Gimel:[3] Whenever one has eaten both Mezonos, and Hagafen or Haietz of the seven species, then he is to precede within the after blessing of Meiyn Gimel to first say the words Al Hamichyah, and only then Al Hagafen and Al Hapeiros, as just as Mezonos receives precedence in the before blessing to that of wine and fruits, so too it is to be preceded in the after blessing.
