The Creation of the World

The sages ask why this world was specifically created with the letter Hei (ה). The answer lies in the layered complexity and purposefulness of creation.

Multiplicity of Worlds and Spiritual Beings

There are countless worlds, palaces, and spiritual beings—angels and souls—each with levels and gradations beyond measure. All these are formed by combinations of the twenty-two letters of the Divine speech, which themselves branch out into infinite permutations.

Role of Divine Letters

The vitality and differentiation in all spiritual realms arise from the various arrangements and exchanges of these sacred letters. Each spiritual entity receives its unique life-force according to its specific configuration.

The Limitation of This World

Unlike higher realms, this physical world is unable to absorb the intense light and spiritual energy of the inner form of the letters directly. Instead, it receives only the external aspect, the “breath,” which manifests as the sustaining force behind all existence.

Divine Speech in Creation

Even though all worlds derive from the Divine, the physical world is animated by the external form of the Divine speech, enabling existence through concealment and limitation.

Symbolism in the Letters

According to Kabbalah, the lower letter Hei represents the soul of the world of Asiyah (Action), while the higher letter Yud symbolizes the spiritual realms of Atzilut (Emanation). The interplay among these letters reflects the flow of Divine energy throughout creation.
