3. Eating meat on Yom Tov

Although there is not an obligation to eat meat on Yom Tov nevertheless there is a [Biblical[1]] Mitzvah for one to do so.

Q&A

Is one to eat animal meat to fulfill this Mitzvah or does poultry also suffice?[2]

The Mitzvah is to eat specifically animal meat. One does not fulfill the Mitzvah through eating poultry.[3] However some Poskim[4] are lenient in this matter. If one cannot afford animal meat, then at the very least he should eat poultry.

How much meat is one to eat to fulfill the Mitzvah?

Some[5] write one is to eat a Kezayis of meat.

Which meal of Yom Tov is the main meal, the night meal or day meal?[6]

The day meal. Nevertheless, the Mitzvah of Simcha applies also by night.

Is one to eat meat also by the night meal?

Yes. One is to eat actual animal meat, just as is done by the day meal.[7] However some[8] are lenient in this matter.
