Question:
If in the process of my Hefsek Taharah I experience irritation during a bedikah and am concerned that a Moch may cause bleeding, am I still required to perform a full moch dochuk (deep internal examination), or may I suffice with the initial Bedika?
Response:
In such a case, when there is concern that performing a Moch Dachuk may cause irritation or bleeding, one is not required to perform a moch dochuk and may instead suffice with the initial clean bedikah. However, this leniency applies to a standard hefsek taharah prior to the start of Shiva neki’im, performed after having waited at least five days from when the Nida bleeding had begun. In contrast, if blood is seen during the shivah neki’im and one must restart the hefsek taharah process, a proper moch dochuk is required according to the letter of the law. In such a situation, we are not initially lenient, and one should not rely on this allowance without consulting a competent halachic authority.
