๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Birth of Zevulun, Son of Yaakov Avinu

According to traditions cited in Midrashic sources, Zevulun, the tenth son of Yaakov Avinu and Leah Imeinu, was born on 6 Tishrei.

Zevulun became the ancestor of the Tribe of Zevulun, whose members were renowned for engaging in commerce and supporting Torah study. Chazal describe the famous partnership between Yissachar and Zevulun, in which Zevulun supported Torah scholars and shared in their spiritual reward.

Some traditions further state that the years of Zevulunโ€™s life totaled approximately 125 years.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Among the sons of Yaakov, Zevulun became the enduring symbol of those who sustain Torah through their material efforts and dedication.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ The Decree Following the Sin of the Golden Calf

According to early sources, on 6 Tishrei a decree was issued against the generation of the wilderness because of the sin of the Golden Calf.

The decree included punishment through:

  • Sword
  • Famine
  • Pestilence

Although Moshe Rabbeinuโ€™s prayers obtained great mercy for the Jewish people, this day remained associated with the consequences of the Golden Calf and the need for repentance and Divine compassion.
