  1. Why Was This World Created with the Letter Hei?
  • Although this world is associated with the lower Hei (×”) of Hashem’s Name, its source begins higher.
  • The lower Hei emerges from the hidden Yud (×™) through the upper Hei (×”).

  1. The Upper Hei Represents Binah
  • The upper Hei symbolizes Binah (understanding).
  • Its length and width represent:
    • Expansion of wisdom
    • Development of hidden insight into clear understanding
  • Binah transforms a concealed idea into something graspable and revealed.

  1. Understanding Reaches the Heart
  • The influence of Binah culminates in the heart.
  • As the Tikkunei Zohar states:

“Binah is the heart, and through it the heart understands.”

  • Intellectual comprehension ultimately produces emotional response.

  1. From the Heart Comes Speech
  • From the heart emerges the breath (hevel) that becomes speech.
  • This breath is the source of the revealed letters that eventually emerge from the five organs of articulation.
  • Thus, speech follows the chain: Yud → Upper Hei → Heart → Breath → Speech.

  1. The Lower Hei Represents Malchut
  • The lower Hei corresponds to Malchut (Kingship).
  • Its broad shape symbolizes the spreading of Divine sovereignty throughout all worlds:
    • Above and below
    • In every direction
    • Throughout creation

  1. Divine Kingship Through Divine Speech
  • Malchut is expressed through “the word of the King.”
  • As Kohelet says:

“Where the king’s word is, there is authority.”

  • Creation exists through the Divine speech that continuously gives it life.

  1. The Flow of Revelation

The spiritual flow described by the Alter Rebbe is:

Yud (Hidden Wisdom)
↓
Upper Hei (Understanding/Binah)
↓
Heart (Emotional Internalization)

Breath and Speech
↓
